Homemade Margarita Mix

Who doesn’t love a Margarita?! Everyone seems to have a go-to Margarita recipe, except me! I set out on a mission to find my perfect Margarita recipe which then led me to make a mix. I like the idea of a mix because all I have to do is add tequila and pour! This quick & simple recipe is good in the refrigerator for a week and, in my opinion, would make an excellent hostess gift from the heart!

What you need

1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 4 large limes)

½ cup granulated sugar

¼ tsp kosher salt

½ cup Cointreau

½ water

Lime zest

How to make it

Squeeze the lime juice into a bowl or measuring cup. I like to use a 2-cup glass measuring container like this one. In a saucepan or small pot, heat the lime juice and add sugar and salt and stir until melted. When the mixture begins to bubble slightly, remove it from heat. Let the juice cool completely. Once the juice is cool, add lime zest, Cointreau, and water. Transfer into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.

How to use

When you are ready to serve up your Margaritas, use a one-to-one ratio (one part mix, one part tequila). Pour over ice or shake and pour! If that feels a little too strong for your taste, add a splash more mix or top with sparkling water. I found some fun airtight bottles in the dollar section at Target and put the mix in them. You can take this as a hostess gift with a bottle of tequila or your favorite rim salt!

Want it spicy?

If you prefer a Spicy Margarita, just add fresh chopped jalapenos & ice to a cocktail shaker, shake all of your ingredients and pour over ice. I also like to do a Tajin rim or sprinkle a little of this Red Clay salt right into the drink.

Enjoy! Can't wait to hear what you think!
