Christmas always been my favorite time of the year. I have always loved decorating for Christmas and began sharing my tips for making beautiful trees this year. Here I will share my tricks that I use to decorate a tree. However, it is important to know that there is not a right or wrong way to decorate. Whatever makes your heart happy and reminds you of the season is the way that the tree should be.
Tip #1: FLUFF THE TREE
Taking the time to fluff, straighten and spread out the branches of the tree WILL make the BIGGEST difference on the way the tree turns out. I promise. I know it is not the most exciting part of the whole thing, and if you have time, do it the night before you decorate, then make the decorating day a whole other event.
Start at the top and the back of the branches and straighten each branch creating a star pattern with each branch.
Your will love yourself for this later!
Tip #2: LAY OUT ALL OF THE PIECES
I like to lay everything out before I get started. This allows for inventory of what I already have and maybe what I need to run out and get. This is also fun for seeing what pieces go together and how you mix and match to make your tree brand new this year.
Tip #3: START AT THE TOP
This is the order that I like to use to decorate my trees.
Picks for the topper
Ribbon (a video of how I do my ribbon can be found here and at the bottom)
Large items
Smaller ornaments
Finishing/smaller picks as filler
* When I am taking down the tree, I do this in the reverse order to facilitate an organized storage*
I made a chart this year as a guide to help you know how much you will need for the size tree you need.
There are so many ways to do ribbon, these are a few ways that I like to do mine.
Happy decorating!
